Cleaning reception

Cleaning reception is an important job. This is the first place that your visitors and guests see, so it should be considered as the face of your business. Keeping your company’s reception clean, tidy and attractive makes an excellent first impression, gives your business a professional edge and puts your guests at ease, knowing they’re in safe hands.

A nice touch for waiting room and reception surfaces is a collection of current magazines and a water cooler or jug of water for guests. Some businesses even leave a bowl of sweets, biscuits or fruit for their visitors. Once or twice a day, someone should be responsible for making sure the magazines are straightened and any complimentary goodies are restocked, and cleaning up any crumbs!

As with cleaners in a business, keeping on top of the job is key. Make sure that you empty bins, dust tables and vacuum at the very least once a day. If you can squeeze in lunch time clean, so much the better. If you have fabric sofas, give them a quick vacuum as well – visitors are far less scrupulous with dropping crumbs than they would be at home. If you have leather or PVC sofas, wipe them down to clean them of dust and sticky finger marks. Plastic chairs, similarly, can be wiped down with a damp cloth to remove sticky spills and fingerprints. When you turn your attention to surfaces, give them a dust down either with wood polish (if they’re wood! ), or with a mix of wash and fabric softener to resist the dust and leave a pleasant aroma. If you have stainless steel or glass surfaces use glass cleaner to bring out the shine.

Gently wipe any plant leaves and give the plants a little water if they need it. Use a bacterial wipe or spray to clean the doors and handles. If they are glass doors, follow up with a glass cleaner. Check that all of the walls are clean and note anything that needs to be cleaned or fixed and pass it on to maintenance. Give the reception desk a good clean, and make sure than everything is organized for the morning. When all the dusting and cleaning is finished vacuum and mop the area thoroughly, working towards the exit.
